Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology
Geology 330
Classification and properties of igneous and metamorphic rocks, the processes that produce them, and the tectonic environments in which they form. Prereq: 310. 2 lecture hours and one 2-hour lab.
Geology 530 Petrogenesis of Crystalline Rocks
Origin and properties of igneous and metamorphic rocks, magmatic and subsolidus processes and physical conditions. Laboratory involves petrographic study of crystalline rocks in thin section. Prereq: 410. 3 hrs and 1 lab.
Geology 565 Chemical Petrology
Application of thermodynamics to geologic materials. Thermodynamics of condensed phases, solutions, thermodynamic stability, heterogeneous multicomponent phase equilibria, and conduction of heat through Earth. Prereq: Chemistry 120–130, Mathematics 141–142. Recommended: Physical Chemistry.
